"Kevin's Place"

We interrupt our regularly scheduled Rick's Place to hear from his brother Kevin:

Hi everyone, my name is Kevin. I have never been to one of these meetings before so excuse me if I'm not making much sense, but my brother Rick has been staying with me for the past week and I'm not sure where to turn.

I'm glad Rick is finally doing well with his recovery in Delray but I guess he got kicked out of his studio apartment and now has come here to live with my family - my wife Shelly and my 11 year old son Greg. He's a great kid.

I have to say, Shelly wasn't very happy when Rick showed up at my doorstep at 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning with a duffel bag and a ten speed. He said he would be there on Monday afternoon. He looked exhausted. I guess the rents in Delray have gotten real high and Rick's job wasn't doing much business, poor kid.

Almost immediately Rick started spending a lot of time in Greg's room. On Wednesday I knocked on his door at 4 in the afternoon and he told me to fuck off. Sorry for the language. I guess he's on that emotional rollercoaster he's always talking about. I know how hard it must be for him.

On Thursday Shelly told me that 50 dollars was missing from her purse. When I asked Rick about it he explained that it's disrespectful to ask a recovering person those kinds of questions and that he was very offended. Then he said that he suspects my son Greg might be using and why don't I go ask him.

When he does come out of his room he looks out windows and says those assholes from Delray are trying to fuck him over - sorry again. Sometimes he's in a good mood but he seems really tired and starts quoting from "Caddyshack" and "Stripes" but he gets the quotes all wrong and gets angry when the family doesn't get it.

Yesterday he asked me where the empty aluminum cans and thumbtacks were. I didn't ask him why because I know he needs his space. When I didn't answer right away he mentioned something about my wife's cans. I let that one go but I have to be honest - it pissed me off.

When my wife and I woke up this morning and Rick was gone but he left a nice note. It seemed like he was in a rush. It said 'sorry for loan. love you bro and sherry. 10 speed's my speed thanks for week.'

I hope he's ok. Thanks for letting me talk.
